Mardi Himal Trek:
Situated just east of one of the most popular treks of Nepal, the Annapurna Base Camp trek, the Mardi Himal trek is a hidden gem. Few trekkers make their way to the Mardi Himal Base Camp spectacularly situated at the base of Mardi.
The
trail goes along small winding paths, through magical rhododendron
forests until you climb out of the forest at an elevation around 3,300
m. The landscape changes quite abruptly into a rugged high mountain
landscape, with amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machapuchre, Annapurna
South and Hiunchuli.
From High Camp (3580 m; some
maps incorrectly mention 3900 m) you can climb up to Mardi Himal Base
Camp in about 3-4 hours, which offers spectacular close up views of the
entire Annapurna Range.
Annapurna Trekking:
The Annapurna Circuit is a popular name for a trek within the Annapurna mountain range of central Nepal. Annapurna trekking
has been wildly recognized as a naturalist's paradise. The upper
sub-alpine steppe environment harbors some of the rare snow leopards and
blue sheep. Other areas of the region protect bird species such as the
multi-coloured Impeyan, kokla, blood pheasant amongst a multitude of
other birds, butterflies and insects. Many plants native to Nepal are
found in this forest. The conservation area has 100 varieties of orchids
and some of the richest temperate rhododendron forest in the world.
Mustang Trekking:
Mustang trekking
is one of Nepal's most mysterious and least known kingdoms. The
landscape of Mustang is a barren moonscape of eroded sandstone pillars
and discontinuous moraine terraces, which together present a colorful
mosaic made up principally of earthen reds, yellows and brown. It is
relatively easy trekking along the permitted route to Lo Manthang, which
lies in the very heart of Mustang. The trek to Mustang is through an
almost treeless barren landscape. Strong winds generally howl across the
area in the afternoon, generally subsiding at night. Being in the rain
shadow of the Himalaya, Mustang has much less rain then the rest of
Nepal.
